( PERSONALITY) : Remus is intelligent, but not insanely brilliant. He's not much smarter than Sirius is, but always worked much, much harder than he did. He has an immense need to prove himself and to be the best he can be, as to erase the prejudice that might arise if people were to find out what he actually is. Remus tries his very best to keep his temper (however slight) under control and usually succeeds (the few days around full moon can be a little more difficult). He is calm, tolerant, and gentle by nature, but because he wants people to like him and because he doesn't want to raise suspicion, he focuses on these traits. Remus can also be viciously fierce and very angry, but hardly anyone gets to see that side of him, not even his friends. Remus is someone who bottles up his emotions because he's too afraid of being overruled by them which might make him losing control and exposing himself.[/blockquote]
Because he has suffered from prejudice too many times, he refuses to judge people without knowing them and will always be extremely forgiving.
Overall, he's quite social once he learns to trust someone. Sure, he's shy and not a social butterfly, but he's not a loner and an unsocial being. The one thing that keeps him from socialising more is, of course, his 'affliction' (being lycanthropy), as he is always afraid newly-made friends will figure him out and push him away just as easily.
Friends are incredibly important to him. Remus would probably feel lost without people to fall back on (especially Sirius, as they've known each other for such a long time). Friends bring out his good sides, yet he is also so dependent on them, he is afraid to stand up to them. This was especially an issue during his later Hogwarts years, when he was a Prefect, and he cut his friends an awful lot of slack, afraid to lose them after all. He will sacrifice everything for the people he cares about, but strangely doesn't usually seem to expect the same from them.
In his younger years, Remus was more of a mischief-maker than he is now. He has not lost his sense of humour: he just knows what his priorities are at this moment, and that is the war and making sure no one dies.
( LIKES ) : Defense Against the Dark Arts, teaching, children, books, new moon, snow, tea, chocolate (though he associates it with bad things, usually..), his friends, spring, Nymphadora, intellectual challenges and puzzles.
( DISLIKES ) : Full moon (obviously), steak and kidney pie (well, he secretly likes it, but all this meat is making him feel so animalistic), bright orange or yellow, choices, Anti-Werewolf Legislation, Fenrir Greyback,
( STRENGTHS ) : Knows his way around Hogwarts probably better than anyone (did loads and loads of drawing work on the Map), DADA, diplomatic, subtle, is capable of both nonverbal and wandless magic, trustworthy
( WEAKNESSES ) : too kind for his own good occasionally, has times when he can't stand himself, not very good with girls (usually tries to get Sirius to get him out of such situations), depends on his friends an awful lot, tends to overwork himself, Nymphadora
( AMORTENTIA ) : tea, ink, dry parchment, the scent of viola music if that would be a scent, camomile, cinnamon, autumn
( RIDDIKULUS! ) : Full moon for obvious reasons, Remus usually turns it into a bouncy ball that changes colour every time it hits something.
( EXPECTO PATRONUM! ) : Remus' worst memory is seeing his parents being so extremely sad after patching him up after his first transformation. He usually counters it with something to do with Tonks, nothing in particular, really. She just makes him laugh regardless – she's so like Sirius and still so young and clumsy at times that it makes him think of the wonderful years he had at school. Patronus is, unsurprisingly, a wolf.
( MIRROR OF ERISED ) : to mean something.

( PLAY-BY ) : David Thewlis
( APPEARANCE ) : As a teenage boy, Remus was built a bit lanky and looked like you could build a kite out of him (especially compared to Sirius 'Quidditch Shoulders' Black). Even though he has grown to considerable height, he's still fairly lightweight due to his quick working werewolf metabolism. The lack of bodyfat along with his narrow, pale-ish face only underlines the fact that he looks a little sickly or tired. (No matter how much time he spends in the sun, his tan always fades in winter.) His hair's a light brown (though streaked with grey) and brushes just past his ears (and occasionally falls in his face); his eyes are of a sort of similar colour, somewhere between honeybrown and darkbrown. His eyes are actually the one thing that stop you from thinking he is critically ill, as they are pretty much always shining and alert - unless he's really not well.
His clothes are always at least second hand and mended in more places than you can think of, but despite all that Remus does his best to be dressed as neatly as possible. He always has, even in school (his friends might often have their shirts untucked or their ties gone 'missing', but this was not the case if you looked at Remus' uniform). He knows he can't afford expensive clothing (and won't allow his friends to buy some for him, either), but that's no reason to walk around like neglected vagabond.
Remus makes up for his sickly and shabby appearance by smiling, something he can do quite charmingly when he chooses to do so. When around Sirius, though, Remus has no problems smiling whatsoever, and it lights up his entire being. If you pay enough attention, you might even catch him actually laughing out loud even in these dark times. Another thing that makes him look lively is simply the way he moves. Remus moves and walks more graceously (give or take a few days a month, of course) than you'd expect and has terribly good reflexes (which makes him very good at duelling, too). He's used to a lack of sleep because he hates going to bed while there's still unfinished work to be done. He usually looks quite okay (after two or three cups of coffee or strong tea). Of course, he 'collapses' every once in a while and is ill, but people that are not his friends seem to assume it's the fault of his all-nighters and not of his other 'affliction'. Somehow, his mood and tired eyes around the full moon seem to go unnoticed (also because he keeps people that are not his friends at a distance, then), people also linking that to a lack of sleep.
Ofcourse, not visible to most people, are his scars. The most prominent one is a large bite mark which covers his right shoulder. Somehow, it never really faded, au contraire to his other, self inflicted scars that are usually reduced to silverish lines after a month or two due to his healing capabilities. Remus also has a bit of scar tissue on visible places (like his face and hands), but not as much as on his torso.
( HEIGHT / WEIGHT ) : *weeps* I'm no good with this. I nicked the height from the other Lupin's application: approximately 6”1'.

( HISTORY ) : Remus was born to John and Mary Lupin in March 1960. They could not have been happier. John had a steady job at the Ministry of Magic at the Department for the Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures. The Beast division, to be exact. They were quite well to do, Mary quitting her job and staying home to take care of their new born boy. Their luck was about to change, though.[/blockquote]
In 1969, probably during yearly check ups, John had in some way managed to offend Fenrir Greyback. Offending a werewolf is never a smart thing to do, but John figured he was 'just a werewolf', so it wasn't like he could do anything to harm him. He was terribly wrong, however, and one december evening, just a few months before Remus' ninth birthday, he would find out how wrong he was. They'd been comfortably sitting around the fire and firewood had run out. Remus, 'being a big boy', had offered to get some from the shed in the back garden and that was when Greyback struck. Remus was all alone in the garden and his parents had no idea what was coming until they heard their son scream. Needless to say, Christmas was cancelled - litterally. Remus survived the attack barely, but would be a werewolf for the rest of his life.
Things went from bad to worse. Firstly, John blamed himself for his son turning into a monster and swore he'd do everything to help him find a cure. Some healers at St. Mungo's advised him to just euthanise his son, as he was too young to survive for more than a year due to the violence of the transformations, but John refused and Remus, well.. Remus proved to be a fighter for his life.
Another problem was that John could not possibly work in the Beast division any longer now that his own son was a werewolf, so he was sent to the Centaur office (a.k.a.: he was sacked). His wife didn't have a job either and the research they did in order to try and cure Remus was costly, which caused them to fall down the financial ladder a great deal. Eventually, they had to give up and both got a mediocre job that paid barely for everything.
Both John and Mary feared Remus would never get into Hogwarts and, thus, would never be able to make a living, but Dumbledore visited them personally to talk the matter over and assured them things would be arranged to make sure Remus could still attend. The werewolf enrolled in 1971 and was sorted into Gryffindor house. It took him a while to find his place, but his dorm mates were very outgoing, so he soon found himself having friends. Of course, his secret still weighed him down, but Remus managed quite well. The teachers liked him, especially Minerva McGonagall and Filius Flitwick, as he did well in almost all of his subjects.
To make sure he could transform without fear of being discovered, a shanty was built outside of Hogsmeade. This shanty had no natural entrances. There was only a secret passage leading to it from under the Whomping Willow, on Hogwarts' grounds. Remus was brought to the structure once a month for his transformations in order to prevent him from attacking other students. However this isolation caused him to attack himself out of frustration. The villagers of Hogsmeade mistook his screams for that of violent ghosts. Thus the building was dubbed the Shrieking Shack and attained the reputation for being the most haunted building in Britain. Dumbledore encouraged this rumour to keep people from investigating the noises.
During second year, James, Sirius, and Peter worked out the truth about Remus' monthly disappearances and confronted him with it. It was almost too good to be true and became even better when his friends revealed they were studying to become animagi so he wouldn't have to be alone during transformations. This only deepened the friendship between the four boys and Remus felt like he was blessed with something he hardly deserved.
Although Remus was generally a good student, he would sometimes join James and Sirius in detention for mischief-making. He didn't get into trouble as often as them, though. No other Hogwarts student ever found out as much about the Hogwarts ground and Hogsmeade as they did, and James, Sirius, Remus, and Peter used their knowledge of it to write the Marauder's Map and signed it with their nicknames. It was eventually confiscated by Argus Filch.
Remus' frequent disappearances riled up an unhealthy curiosity in Severus Snape, a Slytherin student in the same year as Remus, who shared an enmity with James and Sirius, and hated Remus and Peter by association. In sixth year, Sirius (in a fit of anger) told Snape how to get into the Shrieking Shack while Remus was transformed. Severus was saved by James, but needless to say, Remus felt terribly betrayed and didn't speak to Sirius for several weeks before trying to trust his friend again.
Remus met Lily Evans while they were both attending Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Lily wasn't on good terms with Remus' friends (James and Sirius) but that didn't mean she disliked Remus too. Remus and Lily were both made Prefects during their fifth years, and they were friendly. Although he was a Prefect, Remus had trouble exercising discipline over his friends. (Sirius once said that Remus did not participate in the bullying of Snape, but Remus admitted that he regretted that he had never stepped in to stop it.)
After Hogwarts, Remus found that what he had feared was actually happening: as great as his schoolyears had been, so difficult was it for him to function in 'the real world'. Though his lycanthropy had been (to a degree..) accepted at school because of Dumbledore's patronage, in the real world, no such things happened. After a while, he joined the First Order of the Phoenix and attempted to convince the werewolves not to join Voldemort. It was a stressful, difficult time for both him and his friends, as he was not allowed to speak all too freely about these missions, especially as he didn't want to endanger his friends and least of all James, as Lily was expecting a child not too soon after their marriage. (Sometimes, Remus wonders if it was actually that soon. Time was a very elastic term to him, in those days, and he was often cut off from the wizarding world as he was with the werewolves.)
Then, news reached him Voldemort had been defeated. Not sure whether to believe this or not, he contacted Dumbledore, who did, indeed, tell him this was the case, but there was a darker side to it.. When Remus heard all of his best friends were dead, save for one who had murdered them all (and Sirius, Sirius of all people!) his world collapsed. He had always depended on his friends and was terribly attached to them, and now they were all gone in exchange for freedom. Almost, almost, Remus wondered if that was a decent price to pay – but then again.. he knew freedom is worth everything, isn't it? He could not take care of Harry. He didn't have Lily's blood plus he was unable to adopt a child due to werewolf regulations.
He once again attempted to get a steady job, but was unable to. It was 'just his luck' that he could live off his parents' inheritence. Remus doesn't like thinking about the years that followed. It was mostly hard to find a job he could keep, he was often evicted from apartments, and he felt terribly lonely, as somehow, he never met anyone who seemed to be able to accept him like his former friends did. Still, though, he survived, and didn't sink into depression, in stead thinking that that would not help him, and that it would certainly not help people think better about him and his kind, so he endured.
In Harry's third year (1993), Dumbledore offered him a teaching position. Remus still considers this one of the best years he's ever been through. For one, he was back at the school he loved, filled with happy memories. Also, he got to teach, something he'd always wanted to do. Besides this, he got to know James' and Lily's son, who turned out to be just the way he'd imagined, and on top of all that he learned that Sirius was innocent. Especially the last fact calmed Remus immensely. For years he'd been wondering (half subconsciously) why Sirius, who'd always been so different from his parents and kin, would suddenly change sides. He'd assumed, back then, that maybe Sirius (just like him) had just wanted to belong with someone, but then again.. Sirius wasn't like Remus, who would almost do anything to fit in somewhere. It hadn't added up, and hearing he was wrong was, for the first time, the best news in the world.
Naturally, when need arose, Remus joined the Second Order of the Phoenix. It is here that he met Nymphadora for the first time and the moment Sirius knowingly grinned at him as he'd been staring, Remus knew he was falling hard for her. He convinced himself those feelings could never be mutual, but they were and he's been struggeling with that for a while now. He doesn't want to put Dora in any danger, after all, and the war feels far from over.

( RP EXAMPLE ) :Surprisingly enough, Remus felt good today. His muscles felt stiff (due to sleeping on his sofa, which was too small), but he'd slept well, he figured, and he knew (for a fact!) that there was bacon in the fridge waiting to be his breakfast. He had just returned to his two-room appartment last night and had been delighted to find the meat in the fridge with a note from Sirius ('Thought you'd like some, let me know when you're back – Padfoot'), but he'd simply been too knackered to even think about making food and had collapsed on the couch before he'd been able to reach his bed.
Slowly, he got up, several joints complaining with a soft crack, and Remus didn't move for a moment, pondering. Shower first.. or food first. His stomach had made the decision for him before he had been able to give it a proper thought and the scent of bacon being fried filled the kitchen before he could say 'scourgify' (was was rather needed in his kitchen, as it had been abandoned for about a month). Not long after, Remus was sat in his only chair at the wobbly dining table and was trying to keep himself from gobbling down his meat without chewing. Halfway through breakfast, he realised he was missing something. “Coffee..” Was that really his voice? Sounded like he hadn't used it in ages. Remus cleared his throat, left his warm meet on the plate on the table and went in search for some caffeine.
